Walks!

20161028_084139

One of the BeSt things some one can do for their health is to walk! This picture was taken at a trail in North West Pennsylvania this morning as I was on a brisk walk with my husband! I got about 5000 steps in on my Fitbit!!

Walking at any pace is an all over body booster. Your breathing in fresh air (fresh-er depending on where you live!!) which gives your brain and blood much needed oxygen. You’re moving all of your joints and muscles, which help build muscle and increase bone density. And walking alters your mind set. Take a 30 minute walk when you are stressed or depressed and see if those endorphin don’t kick in!! They will!

So we would be amiss at Honest Aromas if we didn’t stress the benefits of walking for holistic health- it ranks as one of our top ten!

Another favorite that we have high lighted many times is….Tea Tree Oil! It is an all around immune system builder, great for skin and Hair issues, oral health and great  for cleaning, just to name a few. The fresh, clean smell and wakes the body…like a good walk!!

So Here are a few ideas for a healthy health walk today! Take your step toward holistic health- you can do it we are here with you!!

Battling the Flu

Hello everyone! I hope your week is going well so far. It’s the first day of March, which means Spring is on its way! We’ve made a few “spring cleaning” changes to our site, as you may have noticed, and we have a few in progress behind the scenes.

We’ve also come across a few cases of the flu here at Honest Aromas in the past week. As I shared last week, my son Dorian had to stay home from school for a few days. One of his teachers also came down with flu-like symptoms, as well as Hannah, who nursed a bad cold over the weekend. It seems like every time the seasons change, there’s a new round of illness. Sometimes this isn’t always related to overall health (although that certainly is a factor), but extra stress and busyness can play a part as well. There’s so much value in pacing yourself and resting!

Some of our own creations are also incredibly helpful when it comes to battling the flu. I sent our Tea Tree Gargle and Allergy and Congestion Rub to Dorian’s teacher, and Hannah also used these powerhouse products. They work great to kill germs, clear respiratory passages, and heal what’s left behind!

Hannah also diffused different combinations of Peppermint, German Chamomile, and Lavender in her new diffuser. The Peppermint was great for the daytime – because it’s a menthol, it’s amazing for air passages – while the Lavender and Chamomile were soothing and healing at night.

So there are just a few ways to fight that nagging flu! We hope you are having a healthy end of winter and would love to help you achieve that goal! Send us an email or give us a call if you have any questions. We want to hear from you!

Manuka!

Isn’t this a funny name? Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) is one of the newest in our roster of oils. It comes from a beautiful plant native to New Zealand, where the Maori people have used it as a remedy for centuries! Our information on Manuka comes from Pompeii Organics and Aromatics International.

Manuka is amazing for skin issues. It combats acne, fungus, poison ivy, eczema, and psoriasis. It is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and cicatrisant (your word of the day! It means skin healing/regenerating 🙂 )

Not only is the herb effective for skin, it’s also wonderful for colds and flu due to its antiviral and decongestant properties. It helps the body get rid of extra mucous and is also sedative, making it helpful for calmness and sleep.

One of the most interesting things about Manuka is that it actually fights allergies. It’s antihistamine properties combat allergic reactions, especially for insect bites or stings.

Manuka is not just used as an essential oil. Tea is one of the oldest ways the herb was used, leading to its nickname as the “New Zealand tea tree” (unrelated to Australian tea tree). Manuka honey has also been an effective remedy (and delicious food!).

Interested in getting some Manuka for yourself? Drop us an email, call, or come by the Oil City Farmer’s Market on Monday or next Thursday! We just got in a small shipment of Manuka and we are always refilling our stock!

What’s your favorite property of Manuka? Have you ever heard of it? What would you use it for?
