Epsom Salt!

I am always amazed how many people DO NOT know about the benefits of Epsom Salt! If I would go to my mother with any ailment, she would say; “go soak in Epsom Salt!”. It always seemed rather boring to me and even like a cop out!! But as I have studied and applied health to my own life, Epsom Salt has become a necessary staple in my home.

Epsom salt, named for a bitter saline spring at Epsom in Surrey, England, is not actually salt but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate.  As the chart shows above, it can reduce stress and all over inflammation! We used it every morning for a few years as a bath for our son who has Autism. It proved to relax him, and get that much needed Magnesium into his system.

Last night, our daughter who runs Cross Country at school, had significant inflammation in her ankle as well as a shin splint ;-( I made her a very warm, teetering on hot bath, of 2 Cups Epsom salt and 10 drops Helichrysum (which is the go-to oil for bruises) for her to soak in.  She came out about one half hour later saying that she felt “so good!” and she continued by icing the leg and ankle. This morning her ankle had completely returned to normal size, as it reduced inflammation with this protocol and resting through the night.

This week I also spoke at an Arthritis Support group and I, again, was amazed to find the participants who had never tried Epsom salt in their repertoire ! It is an inexpensive alternative many times providing more relief, with no side effects, than pain medication ( of course consult with your own Physician if you are on a specific protocol.)

So, I couldn’t let the week go by with out reminding you how great this supplement is and encourage or remind you to try it for what ever ails you! Epsom salt is also The Perfect Carrier for your favorite Essential Oils. Rule of thumb, 1 ounce of Epsom salt to 4-5 drops of Essential Oil. Make sure your Essential oil is not skin irritating if you are going to take a bath in it!! Lavender,Roman Chamomile Rose Absolute or heavier oils like Patchouli and Sandalwood are great oils to blend in Epsom Salt for a calming and relaxing bath.

Have you tried Epsom Salt? We want to hear from you today!

Choosing Forgiveness

easter.jpg

I’ve been understanding forgiveness on a whole new level over the last year. I’ve dealt with asking for forgiveness, forgiving myself, forgiving others and not being forgiven. One thing I completely agree with James McDonald on: “Christians need to be masters at forgiveness.” This is a challenging thought, but it’s true. And whether you’re a Christian or not, you know forgiveness changes your life and allows things to move in a healthy way that would be impossible otherwise.

The biggest challenge and help to me has been to understand that, “I am completely forgiven and fully pleasing to God. I am totally accepted, deeply loved and absolutely complete in Christ” (Robert McGee, The Search for Significance).

With God’s help in believing this is true, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength! I want to be rebuilt and energized in that truth, so I can do everything I was created to do in this life and not waste one more second in unbelief.

I want to encourage you that this is possible! You can change your life, your patterns, your habits, your hangups, and your failures. You can take that mustard seed of faith and it can grow into a flourishing tree!

I completely relate to King David when he said, “I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of The Lord in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13). Forgiveness is not an easy road, and the battle is mostly in the mind. But unless I believe (without seeing) that forgiveness produces good fruit and leads to a more abundant life, I will give in to hopelessness and despair. I have been there many times, and it does not bear anything good! Not for me or any one else around me.

So, I am encouraging myself even as I write this, and hope I encourage you today!I encourage you to check your heart, investigate the things that weigh you down, and ask yourself if there is an area in your life (or that situation you can’t let go of) in which you really haven’t forgiven a person, or even God. Don’t let this day pass without getting it out in the open, confessing it, and receiving forgiveness for it. Don’t carry it around another minute, day, or year. This is precisely the Reconciliation Jesus Christ provided to us through the cross and what we can meditate on further through this Resurrection weekend. The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John can greatly aid us on this journey of forgiveness<3

Liver Detox Yoga!

adriene-sidebar

I told you a few months ago that I had to detox my liver, that the liver was the culprit to my anemia and poor blood lab results. I have been drinking hot lemon water every morning and taking a liver detox supplement recommended by my doctor.

I also started doing this handy little exercise with Yoga with Adriene!  Whether you have a liver issue, or need a little detox (and we all do) this is a great, level entry workout! If you want to try to start inching in to a detox, and make a real impact on health, here are 2 easy steps;

  1. Do not eat after 7 PM. Drink warm lemon water or herbal tea only.
  2. Be in bed sleeping by 11 PM.

These 2 changes in your routine will start the process of healing in your body and helping it to calm down enough to rebuild it self.

You may want to mix a  few drops of each of these oils in with some Epsom Salt for a bath before bed as well.  marjoram, lavender, neroli, orange, chamomile, sandalwood and rose- 2 drops of each in 1 C. of Epsom salt will be calming and restorative to your body and mind. If you only have some of the oils, use as many or as little as you have.

Romantic Oils

Happy Friday folks!

Sandalwood

We’ve talked about Sandalwood on the blog before. Sandalwood is calming and grounding, making you feel safe and comfortable. It also lifts the mood and functions as an aphrodisiac, which explains why it’s considered a very sensual, romantic oil!

Rose

Pink Rose

Rose Absolute  is one of my favorite oils! I love scenting my room with it. It is calming and grounding like Sandalwood, but also very cooling and great for the skin (think rosewater). We’ve talked about some of its amazing skin and mental properties before. Rose Absolute uplifts the mind and puts you in a more loving, romantic mood. This explains why roses are a popular flower for Valentine’s day!

Ylang Ylang

Finally, another oil we’ve featured before, Ylang Ylang is floral and heady, very relaxing and calming, which makes it great for winding down after your Valentine’s dinner. Like Sandalwood, it’s also an aphrodisiac, and it soothes anxious thoughts. For these reasons, it makes a great perfume! Just don’t use too much… you’ll nod off to happy dreams before your weekend plans even get underway. 😉

We hope you enjoy your weekend! Don’t forget to take advantage of our Valentine’s Sale – it ends tomorrow!

ADHD and Sandalwood

In yesterday’s post I talked about my son who is on the autistic spectrum. Something I’ve put together to help comfort and calm him during difficult moments is my ADHD Proprietary Blend, a lotion with nourishing and supporting essential oils, perfect for anyone (especially kids) who needs focus and grounding.

adhd blend

One of the active oils in this blend is Hawaiian Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatim), which according to Pompeii Organics is very calming.

Sandalwood, like Vetiver and Patchouli, is grounding, making the user feel secure and safe. It’s amazing for anxiety and depression.

Sandalwood also kills bacteria and fungus and helps heal the skin and relieve pain. It’s great for cold and flu season because it decongests and fights infection.

Are you interested in trying our ADHD blend for yourself or someone you know? Send us an email, or find us at one of our upcoming Fall festivals! We are sensitive to people with special needs and want to help them and the people who love them live life to its fullest potential! As always, feel free to contact us with any questions.
