This little sweetie is a new favorite of mine!! It is relaxing and it is great for sore muscles. Of course it has tons of therapeutic value, here are few of the properties listed on Pompeii’s site;
*At a GlanceSweet Marjoram gives us stress relief (calming), loosens tight muscles and cramps (think restless legs), and helps turn down the mind (for insomnia blends), and is warming.
I have been receiving some great recipes from Aromahead’s Andrea Butje and here is what she has to say about this little bottle of marvelous!
Sweet Marjoram loves to experience the world through its sense of touch.
It likes to wear organic clothing that feels soft on its skin. Its sheets are 600 thread count. It gives itself face mask treatments twice a week, and once a week it either soaks in mineral-rich warm water or does a full-body mud wrap. Sweet Marjoram also loves to feel the weather on its skin—the soft touch of the wind, rain, and sun make Sweet Marjoram happy to be alive.
So Sweet Marjoram goes out of its way to take care of its skin. Its favorite thing about that? Blends that take care of its skin, feel good on its skin!
Here’s a body butter that Sweet Marjoram makes by hand and uses daily to moisturize and protect its precious skin.
Sweet Marjoram’s Sweet n’ Soft Skin Butter
1 oz (28 g) beeswax (Cera alba)
2 oz (60 ml) jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)
2 oz (56 g) cocoa butter (Theobroma cacao)
2 oz (56 g) coconut oil (Cocos nucifera)
26 drops Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana)
16 drops Geranium (Pelargonium × asperum)
32 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)
You’ll need four 2 oz (60 ml) glass jars for this blend. It makes 7 oz (210 ml) of body butter, and I find it’s helpful to break it up into smaller jars (the smaller jars are easier to find).
Start by setting up the Stovetop Melting Method. Put a Pyrex measuring cup in a soup pot that’s ¼ full of gently simmering water. Then follow these directions in order:
Melt the beeswax in the Pyrex.
Add the jojoba and remelt. You can stir gently with a glass stirring rod or the handle of a stainless steel spoon.
Add the cocoa butter and melt.
Add the coconut oil and melt.
When all of the ingredients are melted together, remove the blend from heat and add the essential oils, stirring gently.
Pour the blend into the jars.
I hope you love this body butter blend! The base—just the carriers without the essential oils—is the same recipe I use for most of the body butter blends in my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy. (I am so excited, the book has surpassed 100 reviews on Amazon!) You can find the book at Aromatics International.
We are happy to carry Sweet Marjoram at Honest Aromas and we have been experimenting with new custom blends utilizing it’s amazingness! Give us a call we would love to get some into your hands today!
If you’ve ever had a mug of warm and spicy chai tea, you’ve literally had a taste of the plant from which we get today’s featured essential oil: cardamom (Elletaria cardamomum)!
According to Pompeii Organics, cardamom essential oil has a chemical makeup that makes it perfect for soothing sore or spastic muscles. It’s a warming oil (as you can tell from chai tea!) and it’s also great for digestion, reducing bloating and gas.
As for mental health, cardamom soothes the mind, helping you focus and keeping you from overthinking.
Cardamom works well with other warm oils, like orange and ginger. You can blend these for an effective digestive lotion.
Interested in trying Cardamom? Contact us! We can give an exclusive deal to our customers. Don’t forget to stop by the Oil City Farmer’s Market from 9-4 tomorrow! It won’t be long before the summer ends and we’ll have to pause the weekly markets until next year. Be sure to come visit us!
Hello everyone! Sorry we’ve been a little behind on blogging this week. It’s the crazy end of summer, and the days get away from us before we know it!
We’ve been busy planning upcoming festivals in the fall, as well as kicking around ideas for the future of Honest Aromas. It’s always fun to dream and plan, isn’t it?
One essential oil we’ve mentioned before, Clary Sage (Salviasclarea), is a good one as you look to the future. According to Pompeii Organics, clary sage (which is different than other sages!) helps lift the mood and balance the hormones, a helpful thing when you’re trying to make plans!
Clary sage reduces tension in the muscles. It is calming, similar to Lavender Angustifolia, and it’s great for high blood pressure.
Due to its hormone-regulating properties, women often use clary sage to balance out the symptoms of menopause. In general, clary sage stimulates the menstrual cycle, due to an estrogen-mimicking molecule in its chemical makeup. This can make it helpful for menopause or period cramps, but that also means it can increase period bleeding or adversely affect pregnancy. Use with caution and with the direction of a trained aromatherapist (one specifically comes to mind! 🙂 ).
Remember, we will be at the Oil City Farmer’s Market from 9am-4pm today, as long as the weather’s good, so check in to see what’s new and to ask any questions you may have! We love meeting new friends and sharing the wonderful world of aromatherapy with you!
One oil that doesn’t get much fanfare is birch (Betula lenta). This sweet, minty essential oil is in our popular Arthritis Pain Blend, which fights joint and muscle pain and restores the body back to full strength.
According to Eden’s Garden, birch is excellent for the muscles because it’s a natural muscle relaxer. When paired with the warming qualilties of oils like clove bud and cinnamon, we have the perfect recipe for pain relief.
Birch is also known to strengthen the mind and emotions, contributing to mental health.

One of our best-loved products is our Joint and Muscle Pain Blend. This lotion blend was perfect for arthritis sufferers, athletes, and everyone in between!
But as part of our ever-present desire to improve our experience and offerings, we have updated our Joint and Muscle Blend. It’s still the same lotion-based formula you love with a different selection of essential oils that are more finely-tuned for your needs: Clove, Birch, and Cinnamon! This blend is stronger than the original, so it lasts longer.
This also now comes in a convenient pumper bottle, which is easier on the joints :). It also contains Trauma Trio, a blend of three carrier oils (from The Herbal Guy), which are excellent for healing and nourishing.
Are you interested in our new and improved blend? Let us know! We are working to get it up in our store as soon as possible. Have a great week!
A common Christmas tradition is to have oranges. They’ve been around for centuries as a holiday treat for eating and decor.
But did you know that oranges can also be used in aromatherapy? Sweet Orange Oil, (Citrus sinensis) to be exact!
When you peel an orange and the peel sprays a delightful scent into the air, that is actually the oil! When it’s processed and distilled it is great for a variety of health and well-being applications.
According to Pompeii Organics, sweet orange is helpful to boost circulation, relax the body, and calm muscle spasms. It also fights bacteria and strengthens the immune system, which is one reason we eat oranges when we are sick!
Mentally and emotionally, sweet orange is uplifting. You might notice your mood lifting just by eating one! Diffuse sweet orange into the air or dilute in a carrier oil or lotion and apply to sore or spastic muscles. This is one of the best smelling oils and makes a sweet and cheerful perfume. 🙂
Have a great weekend, folks! Try to find peace and joy in this busy season. Enjoy it!
Today we want to showcase one of our newest products! We call it the Athlete’s Blend. It’s made with a mixture of castor oil and all the essential oils we use for our joint and muscle rub: manuka, rosemary, helichrysum, lavender, roman chamomile, and black pepper. These oils all have different properties ideal for bodies on the move: this blend will soothe soreness, heal and repair skin, warm the muscles, and get you ready to go out on the move again!
Castor oil is amazing for muscles as it is; it penetrates the skin to get to the deepest layers. But with these oils added to it, the effect is amazing!
Many people have tried and loved our muscle rub, which is essentially this blend in lotion form (without castor oil). What makes this product special, besides the amazing qualities of castor oil, is the flannel.
Why flannel, you ask? Well, flannel makes a great compress for sore muscles and joints. When you soak the flannel piece in the oil blend and apply with a hot pack over it, the combination of heat with the oils gets to the root of stiffness and pain and eliminates it! But you don’t even need the hot pad for a good effect. Simply using the oil-saturated flannel can do an amazing job. The flannel is reusable, and there’s no need to wash out the oils after each use. The perpetual saturation only multiplies the results!
We currently sell the Athlete’s Blend and flannel together for only $15. And starting today, we are selling Honest Aromas products at the Binda’s Lane Alpacas and Gifts shop in Franklin! Check out this darling shop, and pick up some Athlete’s Blend while you’re at it!
Are you an active person? Would you try the Athlete’s Blend? We want to hear from you!
