Epsom Salt!

EpsomSaltGraphic2

I am always amazed how many people DO NOT know about the benefits of Epsom Salt! If I would go to my mother with any ailment, she would say; “go soak in Epsom Salt!”. It always seemed rather boring to me and even like a cop out!! But as I have studied and applied health to my own life, Epsom Salt has become a necessary staple in my home.

Epsom salt, named for a bitter saline spring at Epsom in Surrey, England, is not actually salt but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate.  As the chart shows above, it can reduce stress and all over inflammation! We used it every morning for a few years as a bath for our son who has Autism. It proved to relax him, and get that much needed Magnesium into his system.

Last night, our daughter who runs Cross Country at school, had significant inflammation in her ankle as well as a shin splint ;-( I made her a very warm, teetering on hot bath, of 2 Cups Epsom salt and 10 drops Helichrysum (which is the go-to oil for bruises) for her to soak in.  She came out about one half hour later saying that she felt “so good!” and she continued by icing the leg and ankle. This morning her ankle had completely returned to normal size, as it reduced inflammation with this protocol and resting through the night.

This week I also spoke at an Arthritis Support group and I, again, was amazed to find the participants who had never tried Epsom salt in their repertoire ! It is an inexpensive alternative many times providing more relief, with no side effects, than pain medication ( of course consult with your own Physician if you are on a specific protocol.)

So, I couldn’t let the week go by with out reminding you how great this supplement is and encourage or remind you to try it for what ever ails you! Epsom salt is also The Perfect Carrier for your favorite Essential Oils. Rule of thumb, 1 ounce of Epsom salt to 4-5 drops of Essential Oil. Make sure your Essential oil is not skin irritating if you are going to take a bath in it!! Lavender,Roman Chamomile Rose Absolute or heavier oils like Patchouli and Sandalwood are great oils to blend in Epsom Salt for a calming and relaxing bath.

Some Through The Waters

The Red Sea was before them and the mountains were to the side, an army with the finest weaponry behind, purposed to destroy the multitude in front of them and there was no where to go except up!

Have you every been there? I have many times and even now, I am still there. I am thankful for it though. I have been foolish many times before trying to find relief horizontally, I have taken what I thought was an easier way only to find out I was miles away from the path. When I start feeling that pressure, I look up! “God, what do you want me to do? You are the only One who can meet my needs and desires and has my best interest in mind. I do not know how to walk on water, and I can not swim in these roaring waves, what is the way  you want to lead me through that I am unable to see with my human eyes?”

I wouldn’t change any thing I have ever learned from these times. They are precious, they are a gift from Him to mold and conform me into His image.

Helichrysum is the perfect Essential Oil companion for times like these! Healing to trauma inside and outside of the body, emotionally balancing, great for cuts and wounds. If you are really “living” in this life, you are bound to get a few of those!! I am right here with you walking the road  (or water;-)less traveled ❤

O Send Out Your Light….

“O send out your light and your truth and let them lead me.” Psalm 43:3

Doesn’t that sound so refreshing?! I want to walk in light and truth…not my own understanding or confusion. I need fresh wisdom and discernment every day!

As I read this scripture this morning, it gave me such inspiration- I wanted to share it! It is the beginning of a new week, a new hope and vision awaits all of us. We can change and aspire and grow- and we can encourage one another in the process.

An oil I would recommend for such a journey is, Helichrysum. Highlighted before on Honest Aromas, Helichrysum is very emotionally healing, can help support emotional trauma and wounds, and encourage intuition and creativity.

It is the “go to”, high in Esters, for cuts, bruises and scarring as it works deep and quickly. This is not an inexpensive oil. It costs roughly $50 for a 5 ml. bottle, but a little goes a long way!

So as you walk into the light of your future, be confident and courageous! We are right here with you taking one step at a time….and applying a little Helichrysum along the way;-)

(Helichrysum can be inhaled straight from the bottle. It is one of the few oils that can be applied straight to a cut! 1 drop is all you need.  You can also mix 5 drops into a 1/3 ounce roller bottle filled with liquid coconut oil to support encouragement or to roll onto bruises.)

Throwback: Amazing Helichrysum

Happy Fourth of July! Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday.

Last year at this time we featured a remarkable essential oil: Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum). I got a bad burn over the Independence Day holiday, and I used helichrysum hydrosol with amazing results!

Visit Pompeii Organics for information on helichrysum essential oil and hydrosol.

Just a little edgy humor 🙂 In all honesty, helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) is an amazing oil for all kinds of issues! (Our information today comes from the Aromatic Wisdom Institute’s information on helichrysum.)

The herb is analgesic, which means it helps relieve pain; it regenerates the cells; and it heals the skin, making it wonderful for any kind of wound. This past weekend, I got a bad burn on my ankle. The skin blistered up and it was awful! Right away I sprayed on some helichrysum hydrosol, as I’ve done every day since then. The burn has gotten dramatically better every day!

Helichrysum is also anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, and anti-allergenic. It is an effective anti-depressant, being emotionally balancing and very helpful to heal deep emotional trauma.

One of the best things about helichrysum is that it is non-toxic and non-irritating, making it very versatile. It is great blended with other oils, especially arnica for pain relieving and bruise healing properties.

Is your interest in helichrysum piqued? We sell the oil itself and we feature it in blends like our joint and muscle lotion! We love using this amazing plant and we hope you learn to love it too!

Have you ever used helichrysum oil or hydrosol? What do you think? We want to hear from you!

One of My Favorite Workouts!

This Psyche Truth Yoga for Weight loss Work Out 2 video is a great straightforward and effective workout I do on a regular basis. It took me about a year to build up the strength to do it. ..just keep at it even if you fall over!!

As a side note, Helichrysum is a great essential oil to use while you are making life changes and need some strength and encouragement.

Give it a try, give yourself a goal! I am here doing it with you!!

Helichrysm on the Go!

Happy Friday everybody!

Tomorrow my son Dorian is competing in the Oil City Soapbox Derby! He’s raced for a few years, and we’re excited to see how he does in “The Flagster”, the car that my first son built with his grandpa.

Dorian will be racing down part of a long steep hill. The car is safe and he has a helmet, but cuts and scrapes can happen. I’m bringing along my helichrysum hydrosol for some aromatherapy on the go!

As we talked about in Tuesday’s post, helichrysum is awesome to heal the skin from any kind of wound or burn. Hydrosols are a great way to take the benefits of essential oils wherever you go, as they are already diluted enough for use and come in a sprayer, which is super handy! If Dorian gets any little cuts or bruises, I can grab the helichrysum hydrosol from my purse and spray it on right away.

Next week we’ll be writing a post on hydrosols. We’ve talked about them before, but you’ll get an in-depth look at this very versatile side of aromatherapy!

What are your weekend plans? Have you ever used a hydrosol? Have a safe and happy weekend, and come see the race at 9am up by the Oil City High School!
