And The Results Are In… (drum roll, please;-)

Remember a few months ago when I posted about detoxing after my doctor found out that my liver really wasn’t working well? Well, I have been on that diet ever since, giving up coffee, taking it back up a few times, not eating dairy, sugar, or most grains and watching my fruit intake.

I followed up with that same doctor this week and he said that I was doing amazing! He said; “congratulations, you just added 5 years to your life”! I have lost 16 pounds so far, and many of my labs have done a 180 degree turn! My body is starting to heal it self!! My iron levels are not in the range they need to be, and the same is true for my thyroid, but we are in the “tweaking stage”, as he called it, and as I continue, the results will improve!!

I am so thankful for that great news and I definitely feel the healthiest I have been in my whole life- despite having a ways to go! I do not have the sugar cravings, and I am much more even keeled with my adrenals being supported with supplements. I sleep great and have a lot more energy and stamina. Any inflammation I had is completely gone and my mind is clearer. I desire to stay on this diet the rest of my life, having the indulgences for special occasions.

Essential Oils have definitely helped with stress. I have such an amazing Aroma wafting through my home because of what I do, and I am thankful for the supportive roll they play in strengthening my immune system. I personally like to blend Frankincense and Lavender in some Avocado oil and use as a moisturizer. It is calming and fortifying and smells pretty delicious!

So, if you want to re boot your health, I definitely recommend a fast. Getting sugar out of your diet, in all forms, is the biggest health shift you can make! It will change your life! Your not alone, I am right here with you on the health journey and I want to hear from you today!

Haha…Not what you want to hear a day before all that Valentine Chocolate!!

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I got off coffee in preparation for the diet I knew was coming for my anemia issues? Well that is what I am doing now! Would any one like to join me? It has only been 24 hours and I am grumpy!! Getting off of coffee was ok I guess because I could stuff several handfuls of almonds into my mouth or have a few apples loaded with peanut butter! Those days are gone!

The following is a segment of an article on detox from NAHA last spring. My diet, given by a Nutritionist is not void of meat or poultry, praise The Lord!, but isn’t easy and I can already feel the detoxifying effects today.

How to do an Internal Cleanse If you are new to internal cleansing, it is best to start the process slowly so that you do not detox too quickly. Below are simple ways to start the internal cleansing process, which can be a one-day to three-month daily process: 1) Reduce or eliminate congestive foods like meat, poultry, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, processed foods and all nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplant), which increase inflammation. 2) Start your day with two to three, eight ounce glasses of purified water with one to two teaspoons of lemon juice (the juice from the fruit, not the essential oil). Then, continue drinking purified water with the lemon juice throughout the day. 3) Include the following foods in your diet to cleanse your liver: • LOTS of green leafy vegetables like kale, Swiss chard, dandelion, and spinach. • MORE vegetables. • Avocados.

As I found out through my blood work and the help of this Nutritionist, my liver is REALLY struggling. Our first course of action is to clean it out and get it to do what it should be doing….cleaning my blood. I am thankful for this information and the thought of loosing a few pounds and feeling healthy and clear again is my motivation. My Nutritionist’s exact words were; “you will see a DRAMATIC difference in 2-3 months”

What do you think? Want to start this with me and get healthy for Spring? I am right here doing it with you;-)

Neuropathy

Hello everyone!

Recently I’ve been working with a client who experiences severe nerve pain. I just wanted to share some tips for those of you who deal with the same thing. Neuropathy can be an overwhelming issue. Debilitating pain and numbness can keep you from living your day to day life, while conventional treatments often have no effect.

There is not a “silver bullet” for neuropathy, but from a holistic standpoint, several lifestyle changes are extremely helpful. It all starts in your diet. Following a paleo, gluten-free, fat-rich diet reverses the damage to your nerves and helps the nerve cells rebuild. This has worked for my current client and for a dear friend of mine, who, as a young mother with three children and debilitating pain and numbness, was able to completely heal! The amino acid L-Glutamine, a wonderful supplement, is super helpful to rebuild your system as well.

As a supplement to the nutritional changes, St. John’s Wort oil is extremely helpful for nerve pain. It does not reverse the condition, but it deals with the pain while your body is being replenished. Together, these changes will help heal your body from all the damage!

The Herbal Guy has a brand new St. John’s Wort Oil for sale, which I highly recommend. Check out our original post on St. John’s Wort in general – the herb itself has many wonderful properties besides helping with neuropathy. And as always, if you have any questions, leave a comment or shoot us an email!

We will not be at the Oil City Farmer’s Market today. Catch us on Thursday!

Pass the Pecorino

Happy Tuesday folks! It’s Hannah here again, and today we’ll be talking about dairy allergies! (Fun! ;))

As an infant, I suffered from ear infections that led my mom (Julia) to find that I had a dairy allergy. As a child, I ate a dairy-free diet that included soy yogurt, Rice Dream ice cream, and this culinary masterpiece:

Pecorino Romano is a Parmesan-like cheese made from sheep’s milk, and was a staple for me growing up. As a five-year-old, I was more likely to ask for a slice of this than for a slice of American cheese. To this day it’s still my favorite!

I have mostly grown out of my dairy allergy, but it resurfaces from time to time when my immune system is weaker. I can always tell a reaction coming on by increased phlegm in my airways and a persistent cough that can often last for weeks.

The nature of allergies is such that your body might tolerate an allergenic substance for a while, but when you’ve overtaxed your system too much, your body will have a giant reaction in an effort to purge what it mistakenly sees as a harmful substance. This is what I experience with my cough, and what others may experience with hives or swelling.

This kind of reaction can also happen with essential oils if your body is allergic or sensitive to an herb. Because essential oils are highly concentrated, the buildup of the substance your body believes is harmful can create a serious reaction. That’s why it’s important to be safe and to know what you are doing when you use EO’s!

The best way to treat food allergies is to completely eliminate suspicious foods from your diet for at least five days, then to add them back in one by one, monitoring your reaction as you reintroduce each one. We also carry an allergy and congestion rub with cedarwood, lemon, and ginger essential oils and a pink himalayan salt gargle with tea tree oil for acute respiratory issues caused by colds and allergies.

It’s important to know your body and its limits! A sign of allergy or sensitivity in you might be different for someone else, and what helps someone else may not be helpful for you. Learn as much as you can (we are always here to help!) so that you can enjoy the best health possible!

Have you ever had an allergy? Ever tried pecorino romano? What works for you? What doesn’t?
