And The Results Are In… (drum roll, please;-)

Remember a few months ago when I posted about detoxing after my doctor found out that my liver really wasn’t working well? Well, I have been on that diet ever since, giving up coffee, taking it back up a few times, not eating dairy, sugar, or most grains and watching my fruit intake.

I followed up with that same doctor this week and he said that I was doing amazing!He said; “congratulations, you just added 5 years to your life”! I have lost 16 pounds so far, and many of my labs have done a 180 degree turn! My body is starting to heal it self!! My iron levels are not in the range they need to be, and the same is true for my thyroid, but we are in the “tweaking stage”, as he called it, and as I continue, the results will improve!!

I am so thankful for that great news and I definitely feel the healthiest I have been in my whole life- despite having a ways to go! I do not have the sugar cravings, and I am much more even keeled with my adrenals being supported with supplements. I sleep great and have a lot more energy and stamina. Any inflammation I had is completely gone and my mind is clearer. I desire to stay on this diet the rest of my life, having the indulgences for special occasions.

Essential Oils have definitely helped with stress. I have such an amazing Aroma wafting through my home because of what I do, and I am thankful for the supportive roll they play in strengthening my immune system. I personally like to blend Frankincense and Lavender in some Avocado oil and use as a moisturizer. It is calming and fortifying and smells pretty delicious!

So, if you want to re boot your health, I definitely recommend a fast. Getting sugar out of your diet, in all forms, is the biggest health shift you can make! It will change your life! Your not alone, I am right here with you on the health journey and I want to hear from you today!

Liver Detox Yoga!

I told you a few months ago that I had to detox my liver, that the liver was the culprit to my anemia and poor blood lab results. I have been drinking hot lemon water every morning and taking a liver detox supplement recommended by my doctor.

I also started doing this handy little exercise with Yoga with Adriene!  Whether you have a liver issue, or need a little detox (and we all do) this is a great, level entry workout! If you want to try to start inching in to a detox, and make a real impact on health, here are 2 easy steps;

  1. Do not eat after 7 PM. Drink warm lemon water or herbal tea only.
  2. Be in bed sleeping by 11 PM.

These 2 changes in your routine will start the process of healing in your body and helping it to calm down enough to rebuild it self.

You may want to mix a  few drops of each of these oils in with some Epsom Salt for a bath before bed as well.  marjoram, lavender, neroli, orange, chamomile, sandalwood and rose- 2 drops of each in 1 C. of Epsom salt will be calming and restorative to your body and mind. If you only have some of the oils, use as many or as little as you have.

Haha…Not what you want to hear a day before all that Valentine Chocolate!!

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I got off coffee in preparation for the diet I knew was coming for my anemia issues? Well that is what I am doing now! Would any one like to join me? It has only been 24 hours and I am grumpy!! Getting off of coffee was ok I guess because I could stuff several handfuls of almonds into my mouth or have a few apples loaded with peanut butter! Those days are gone!

The following is a segment of an article on detox from NAHA last spring. My diet, given by a Nutritionist is not void of meat or poultry, praise The Lord!, but isn’t easy and I can already feel the detoxifying effects today.

How to do an Internal Cleanse If you are new to internal cleansing, it is best to start the process slowly so that you do not detox too quickly. Below are simple ways to start the internal cleansing process, which can be a one-day to three-month daily process: 1) Reduce or eliminate congestive foods like meat, poultry, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, processed foods and all nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplant), which increase inflammation. 2) Start your day with two to three, eight ounce glasses of purified water with one to two teaspoons of lemon juice (the juice from the fruit, not the essential oil). Then, continue drinking purified water with the lemon juice throughout the day. 3) Include the following foods in your diet to cleanse your liver: • LOTS of green leafy vegetables like kale, Swiss chard, dandelion, and spinach. • MORE vegetables. • Avocados.

As I found out through my blood work and the help of this Nutritionist, my liver is REALLY struggling. Our first course of action is to clean it out and get it to do what it should be doing….cleaning my blood. I am thankful for this information and the thought of loosing a few pounds and feeling healthy and clear again is my motivation. My Nutritionist’s exact words were; “you will see a DRAMATIC difference in 2-3 months”

Healthy, Warm and Cozy…..

We got a lot of snow here last night!! The kids have off school and we are taking it easy at home. I think I am going to make a big pot of soup!! Doesn’t that sound good?

A friend of mine shared this recipe with me on Sunday. It is considered a detox soup, but I know from my history with allergies, it is a low allergen soup (minus the roma tomatoes).

Whether you are trying to lose weight or just trying to eat a little healthier, this Healthy Detox Vegetable Soup is for you! Whole 30 approved!

Yield: Serves 6 to 8
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    1 large white onion, diced
  • 3 celery stalks, 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1½ tablespoons soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 2 large roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed (optional)

As you notice, there is some basil in there….and even though it is not in it’s Essential Oil form, I have added some of the benefits of this wonderful herb!

PROPERTIES
Antiemetic-reduces severity of nausea or vomiting
Antiseptic – assists in fighting germs/infections
Antispasmodic – relieves spasms and cramps
Carminative – may assist in preventing gas
Cephalic – helps clear the head when focus in required
Expectorant – removes excess mucus from respiratory system

HOW TO USE Basil Essential Oil.
Chest Cold/Cough:
apply basil in a cream to the chest to help stop coughing or place a few drops in a diffuser and breathe deep.
Headache: For a stress induced headache, rub basil cream around your neck area and on temples. Blending with lavender or peppermint is also helpful.
Nausea: Place a drop of sweet basil on a tissue and inhale deeply to stop vomiting or nausea.
Cramping: makes a good rub for sore muscles, abdominal cramping, and pains.
Other ways to use basil:
For respiratory benefits, place a few drops in a diffuser.
To use a carrier, dilute 6-12 drops per ounce of the following: cream, shampoo, or liquid soap. Always dilute in a carrier before adding to a bath or foot soak. Use fewer drops for elderly or children.(Information from Pompeii Organics)

So whether you are putting some fresh or dry basil in your soup, it has those wonderful added healthy benefits while you are staying warm and cozy and enjoying those in your life!<3
