Eucalyptus

Hello folks! We hope you are having a great week before the Easter holiday.

Today we want to share an essential oil we’re not quite sure why we haven’t featured before: Eucalyptus!

According to our favorite Pompeii Organics, Eucalyptus (globulus) is a powerhouse for sickness. Most people think of eucalyptus as good for a cough and cold, and this is correct; eucalyptus literally breaks down congestion and opens air passages!

Interestingly, however, there are several different kinds of eucalyptus. The globulus variety is excellent to fight the germs, viruses, and inflammation of colds and flus, while a variety like citriadora is better to fight fungus and repel insects. This is why it’s important to know what you’re buying and using!

Eucalyptus is a great oil to diffuse around the house. Use it to stave off illness and cool your airways! It can also be added to lotions, carrier oils, and soaps. Be sure to dilute it properly, however, for the best affect. Eucalyptus is strong and can be irritating if not used correctly. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!

Grapefruit for Winter Blues

This time of the year always gets a little bittersweet. The holidays are over, but a new year has begun, but the weather is often cold and harsh. This won’t do!

Grapefruit essential oil (Citrus paradisi) is a lifesaver for wintertime. Not only does it fight viruses and strenthen the body’s systems (making it great to treat wintertime illnesses), but it’s also a natural antidepressant and mood booster. The sweet, fresh, tangy scent brightens up any day

(of course, the fruit is delicious too!)

Grapefruit also has diuretic and astringent properties; it removes excess fluid and swelling and tightens tissue.

There are many effective ways to use this essential oil. The best way to use for mood boosting is to diffuse it. For topical uses, always dilute with a carrier oil or unscented lotion (start with 5 drops per fluid ounce). BE CAREFUL because grapefruit is phototoxic, meaning it burns and irritates the skin if exposed to sunlight. And as always, do not take internally unless under the supervision of a certified aromatherapist.

Do you have any questions about this amazing oil? Give us a call or send us an email! I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Have a great week!
