And The Results Are In… (drum roll, please;-)

Remember a few months ago when I posted about detoxing after my doctor found out that my liver really wasn’t working well? Well, I have been on that diet ever since, giving up coffee, taking it back up a few times, not eating dairy, sugar, or most grains and watching my fruit intake.

I followed up with that same doctor this week and he said that I was doing amazing! He said; “congratulations, you just added 5 years to your life”! I have lost 16 pounds so far, and many of my labs have done a 180 degree turn! My body is starting to heal it self!! My iron levels are not in the range they need to be, and the same is true for my thyroid, but we are in the “tweaking stage”, as he called it, and as I continue, the results will improve!!

I am so thankful for that great news and I definitely feel the healthiest I have been in my whole life- despite having a ways to go! I do not have the sugar cravings, and I am much more even keeled with my adrenals being supported with supplements. I sleep great and have a lot more energy and stamina. Any inflammation I had is completely gone and my mind is clearer. I desire to stay on this diet the rest of my life, having the indulgences for special occasions.

Essential Oils have definitely helped with stress. I have such an amazing Aroma wafting through my home because of what I do, and I am thankful for the supportive roll they play in strengthening my immune system. I personally like to blend Frankincense and Lavender in some Avocado oil and use as a moisturizer. It is calming and fortifying and smells pretty delicious!

So, if you want to re boot your health, I definitely recommend a fast. Getting sugar out of your diet, in all forms, is the biggest health shift you can make! It will change your life! Your not alone, I am right here with you on the health journey and I want to hear from you today!

Remember to Keep Going!

20160207_222308.jpg

If you have been reading my blog, you know I have been on a personal journey the last few years. Through that time, my husband and I were separated and every thing in the fabric of my life seemed to be pulling apart.

The way we parented, or did not parent our youngest, autistic, son together, was a definite strain on our marriage. You have these imperfections in marriage and parenting, but you can slough them off easier, I think, with “typical” children. But these inconsistencies will glare in the face of a special needs child and cause you to grow together or apart.

So, as we came to the bottom of everything we thought we had, and I personally was in the lowest place a person could be- I relinquished control. I told God, if He cared about me, and about this Holy Union He named Marriage, He was going to have to make something out of broken pieces. It has been a painful process, dying to self usually is! For if we are going to make something beautiful out of broken, it has to be sorted out, cleaned out, rebuilt and it won’t happen with resistance.

In the process, I approach my children differently. I am approaching my special needs son slower. I am more conscious of my being just a “vessel”, and I can pour out love to him, or frustration. I am in his life (and everyone’s for that matter) to pour out love, power and a sound mind. This is a work of The Holy Spirit- I do not have this kind of supernatural-ness!

Last night he asked me to pray for him and read the Bible to him, he was troubled in his mind. I was so blessed that he would even ask me to do that! At one point, he started kissing my hand, I asked him why he was doing that and he said; “your awesome”. Taken aback, I asked, “why?” He said; “because you are trying to help me!” How beautiful, how simple, how divine.

I was reminded of my friend buying me this Keep Going mug and how I would use it every morning and read it’s truth. When you  bottom out in life, it is not the time to quit and give up! It is the time to ask for supernatural help and run with endurance. There are Always second, third, tenth, hundredth chances. God NEVER gives up on you! Even if others do, and they will, you are there to be awesome for some one else. Keep Going- I am right here with you cheering you on!!

It Takes A Little Time…

20170515_123806

Beautiful things do not happen by chance! There is a process…a seed, a sprout, and eventually a flower. I planted this Clematis last year, and it was so small and spindly, I didn’t know if it would make it. I was so presently surprised to find this flower blooming on the arch of my patio yesterday!!

It reminds me of the journey I have been on over the last few years. Broken relationships, little life and then, slow-but-sure, signs of life here and there. Giving my self up to God’s will, soaking in the truth of who I am in Him, letting His Spirit water me, lead me, and guide me and watching it grow and reach out to others.  It has taken time, but some deep, beautiful things are blooming.

There are so many wide and shallow….it takes time to be deeply beautiful- and then turn and give that beauty away to some one else! I am right here with you on the journey and would love to hear from you today<3

Message In A Bottle

bottle

The infamous, Message In a Bottle, has been used through the centuries to write SOS alarms, send love messages and let oceanographers create pictures of the patterns of water circulation in the seas! The most recent bottle being recovered in the North Sea  after 98 years and it’s message read;

“Please state where and when this card was found, and then put it in the nearest Post Office, you will be informed in reply where and when it was set adrift. Our object is to find out the direction of the deep currents of the North Sea.”

Not very helpful…or romantic!!!

Well, you can create your own message in a bottle that will have instantaneous results!! What am I talking about, you ask?! When a few drops of essential oils are added to this cork diffuser bottle, the chemical components of the essential oil(s) send messages through your olfactory system to the cranial nerves and then relay that data to the brain! Voila! Message sent, and desired affect underway!

Inhalation is the fastest and safest method of using your essential oils and receiving the therapeutic effect. We have these adorable bottle necklaces ready and available for only $4.99 to start your next health adventure!

Want to Learn More About Aromatherapy?

Honest Aromas Classes!

DSC_0444

Honest Aromas has had a record number of classes this year! Our Intro to Aromatherapy class leaves students feeling like they’ve learned important information, no matter what level of aromatherapy knowledge they had before. The feedback has been amazing.

Often we see people hesitant to sign up for one of our classes. They’ve been to a big-name, multi-level-networking essential oil “class” before, only to come away so disappointed because it was really just a heavy sales pitch. They ask us, “Is your thing really a class, or are you just trying to sell something?”

I assure them that this is a class that they will definitely learn a lot from. Our classes aren’t just dry and academic; they’re hands-on and, if we say so, pretty fun! Each one of our students has been overjoyed after a two and a half-hour session.

In our classes, you will get a brief history of aromatherapy. You will also gain understanding in the chemical makeup of essential oils, as well as their safe use. Then you will put your knowledge to the test, creating your own blends with a certified aromatherapist (yours truly) on hand to answer any questions.

Dance With Me

20170505_205545

Here’s a pic of my husband and I this weekend at our second Swing dance lesson!  I was amazed at how profound the concept of dance is in relation to our marriage relationship. My husband is called to be a leader in our family. Many times through the many years of marriage, it has been difficult for me to follow his lead. He  has, at times, really struggled knowing where he was headed let alone, where we were going.  Every small gesture in dance means something. The way he presses against my back, or raises his hand all mean something and in response, I follow the lead- and we dance.

On a greater scale, our relationship with The Father should be the same way. Listening to Him, paying attention to His details help us dance through this life.  Ebbing and flowing, dipping and lifting, it is all part of this celebration we call life.

Henri Nouwen says; “Any dance of celebration must weave both the sorrows an the blessings into a joyful step…to heal is to let the Holy Spirit call me to dance, to believe again, even amid my pain, that God will orchestrate and guide my life.”

If you have been following my blog for any amount of time, I am sure that you have read about my husband and my “dance” through the past few years. It hasn’t been all sunshine and roses! But we are learning to listen, learn, observe and dance in a whole new way. We have been open to say we do not know how to do certain things well, and we need help! We have gone to instructors who have more experience and knowledge and allowed God to take our fumblings and turn them into something ordinary and amazing at the same time. Sorrows and blessings mixed with thanksgiving set us up for joy, we do not always see it immediately, but that is the foundation that is being built.

Stepping out and learning new things can be down right scary, I know! We can prefer what we know even if it is destructive- but we can all change if we are willing. Maybe you are on a new health journey, maybe you are having a relationship issue, maybe you just want to take “that class” but are too afraid. I am right here with you,  will you dance with me? 🙂

What “Weeds” Do You Have In Your Back Yard?

20170503_083333.jpg

The other day, in Do The Next Thing, I touched on using local “weeds” for medicinal purposes. I found a great article about  Creeping Charlie written by Connie Korstens that goes into detail on that very subject!

Many people hate the sight of Creeping Charlie (Glechoma hederacea) will do anything to try to eradicate it. It is often considered an invasive weed that runs amok. But when I see this low growing plant with kidney-shaped leaves and beautiful, funnel-shaped, bluish-violet flowers in the spring, it makes me think of all the amazing medicinal uses it has.

European settlers intentionally brought Creeping Charlie to America for its culinary and medicinal uses. A member of the mint family, the herb forms long trailing stems that create a dense mat over the ground. Another common name for this plant is Ground Ivy.

Historically, it has a rich background and was even used in beer making as a clarifying agent to improve flavor before hops were used. It was also used by painters as a remedy for lead colic. Mostly, it was used as a tonic. Since Creeping Charlie is extremely rich in vitamin C, it was often made into a tea and used to prevent scurvy.

Parts used: Flowers, stems, leaves.

Medicinal Uses: Both Internal and external.

*Soothes inflamed mucous membranes

*Sinusitis

*used for inner and middle ear remedy

*tinnitus (ringing in the ears

*kidney and lung disorder

*head colds, especially with congestion in ear tubes

*bronchitis and viral pneumonia

*cough remedy

*bladder infections

*indigestion

*may be useful for heavy metal detoxification (lead, mercury, aluminum)

*traditional cancer remedy

*Externally used as a wash or poultice for sores, cuts, bruises and ear or nasal infections

*Systems Supported: Kidney, bladder, respiratory, lymphatic, and digestive.

*Plant Preparations: Infusion (tea), tincture, poultice.

*Minerals/Vitamins: Iron, copper, iodine, phosphorus, potassium. Rich in Vitamin C.

*Herbal Actions: Anti-catarrhal – Anti-inflammatory – Antiviral – Astringent – Diaphoretic – Diuretic – Expectorant

RECIPE: Creeping Charlie Tea.

Because this plant runs so rampant, one way to embrace and use Creeping Charlie is to make an herbal infusion. It has a pleasantly subtle mint-like flavor.

Infusions are a great way to build health. Just think of them as a gentle tonic for the body. Tonic herbs are beneficial to the body and they can either increase or decrease the activity of a system, as needed. Some tonic herbs have an overall affect on several bodily systems, while others address a narrow range of processes. Herbal teas are easy to prepare and nurturing to sip.

How To Make It…

Pick enough plant material to loosely fill a quart jar. Thoroughly wash the Creeping Charlie. Place the plant material in a quart jar. Fill to top with boiling water. Cover jar and steep for one hour. Remove plant material and drink either hot or cold. Optional: Add lemon or lime slices with a sprig of fresh mint

Reading this article re energizes me to gain some more knowledge on my back yard “weeds”! When our older children were younger, I often dug up dandy lion roots or clipped other leaves and flowers for medicinal teas. It is all right there, free for the taking! I went out side this morning and collected some of this lovely plant, and I am making this tea as I type!!

Do The Next Thing

20170430_183507.jpg

This pic was taken on the bike trail in our area. I have been purposely appreciating “the weeds” in my yard or along the side of the road. They are “weeds” because someone has called them “weeds” and told us that they are to be pulled out, not picked, and not looked at as a thing of beauty. But they are lovely- faithfully growing there at the edge of the trail, under the sun light as I ride my bike and move forward.

Yesterday at church, our pastor reminded us to continue to be faithful in everyday things. When you feel you have failed,  don’t know what to do next or you feel you are not where you are supposed to be, simply do the next thing and be faithful in it. If you have a job, show up, be faithful when no one is watching. If you are married, be love to your spouse. If you are a parent, be present and involved in your child’s life. If you are none of the above, get up and move and “bloom where you are planted”! Be beauty to yourself and to others.

In The Broken Way, Ann Voskamp says, “When nothing feels simple, simply do the next thing.” Sometimes life can be overwhelming. Reduce it, do the next thing, take the next step-be faithful in the small things. And look for the beauty and growth in the “weeds”.

Speaking of “weeds”, many of the wonderful properties we glean from our Infused Oils come from garden variety “weeds”!! Red Clover, Creeping Charlie, Yarrow, for example, all have amazing health properties.  I blend many of my Essential Oils into infused oils for added health benefits. I have taken local classes to identify helpful “weeds” that grow in our region. Does this interest you? Buy a book on the subject, or check out classes at your local parks! Learn, grow, flourish….simply do the next thing 🙂
