Not Just for Sneezing

Chances are, you use pepper daily to season your food.

Did you know, though, that black pepper (Piper nigrum) essential oil also has amazing health benefits?

It’s true! According to Pompeii Organics, black pepper is an amazing pain reliever! Like the related cayenne pepper, black pepper has a warming effect, making it effective for joint and muscle aches. We use it in our Athlete’s Blend for any kind of soreness. It stimulates blood flow and encourages circulation, taking away pain.

Apart from its pain relieving properties, black pepper also fights infection and inflammation. It reduces fever and clears respiratory passages.

Emotionally, Pepper can help reduce fear and motivate change, which pairs well with yesterday’s blog on doubts!!BlackPepper_15ml_USDA_WEB__56833.1456168736.215.215

Because this is a warming oil, you shouldn’t use black pepper in a bath or anything where you want a gentle, cooling effect. Mixing it with mint or citrus oils can help balance the warmth.

So you see, pepper isn’t just good to make you sneeze. 🙂

Interested in trying black pepper? Let us know! We usually stock a few bottles. We also have it as an ingredient in several products, so send us an email or visit us this week at the Oil City Farmer’s Market on Thursday! It is National Farmer’s Market Week! Come and support your local vendors:-)

Doubts

Doubtful-Image

We all have them. Those incessant nags about all of our decisions. Doubting is negative, it is  not helpful or healthy to be a doubter. It provides nothing positive in our life.  According to “The Feeling Wheel” developed by Dr. Gloria Wilcox, being skeptical has it’s root in the emotion of being mad.

If I am considering holistic health, I examine how this habit can affect my over all health. I have been challenged by what I have been reading lately.Hannah Whitall Smith wrote this in 1875 concerning doubts;  Do not stop to argue out the matter with yourself or with your doubts. Pay no attention to them what ever, but treat them with the utmost contempt. Shut your door in their very face and emphatically deny every word they say to you.  She wrote a whole chapter on the matter in her book; The Christian’s Secret to a Happy Life.

The Bible itself explicitly teaches not to doubt.

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.
I have been on a mission of renewing my mind for many years, but much more fervently the last several months. I have overcome an addiction by God’s grace and I see things much clearer than I ever have in my life. I realize that doubting has been an such a hindrance in my life- I never realized how much I participated in it.
I encourage you to take this challenge with me. Look doubt in the face and tell it to go back from where it came from! Like Hannah Whitall Smith said, “pay no attention to doubt what so ever. Then let the doubts clamor as they may, they cannot hurt you if you will not let them in.”
An Essential Oil that we have high-lighted earlier and offers strength to self confidence and motivation is, Basil. What we need in the face of doubt is Courage! So renew your mind and support your over all health with essential oils like Basil.
We want to hear from you today! Tell us how you have over come doubt in your life!

Two Good Things

On this blog we’ve featured various mints and bergamot essential oils, but today’s oil has a little bit of both! Meet Bergamot Mint (Mentha citrata)!

According to Pompeii Organics, bergamot mint is one of the most gentle of the mint family, similar to lavender (angustifolia) in it’s sedating, calming effect. It lifts the mood and fights depression.

It’s also very good for the skin, giving a soothing and cool feeling. However, always dilute bergamot mint (as you should with every oil!) as it can be irritating to sensitive skin.

Be sure to let us know if you’d like to try bergamot mint! We carry a wide repertoire of pure essential oils in addition to our improved roster of original products. Contact us today!

Throwback: All About Spearmint

Today we hearken back to an oil we featured this past spring: Spearmint!

Hello all! Hope your week is going well!

Last week we shared our newest product: the Allegheny Woods collection. One of the ingredients in this special blend is Spearmint oil (Mentha spicata).

Spearmint is sweeter, cooler, and more mellow than its relative Peppermint (Mentha piperita). Our favorite brand comes from Pompeii Organics.

Spearmint is an excellent calming oil. It soothes the body and even aids with depression. You can use spearmint for colds and flu, as it fights infection and clears airways. It is also an effective anti-fungal agent and can help with digestion.

Spearmint is a gentler mint, which makes it great for more soothing applications. It offers the freshness of mint without the bite! That’s why we chose it for our Allegheny Woods blend.

Are you interested in trying this wonderful oil out for yourself? Shoot us an email (honestaromatherapy@gmail.com)! We work with our favorite company Pompeii Organics to bring you the best prices for the best quality oils.

Have you ever used spearmint before? Let us know what you think!
