One of the best things about living in Pennsylvania is the beautiful rhododendron bushes that bloom in the spring and early summer. The cheerful pink or purple flowers are a pick-me-up any day.
Did you know, however, that there is one species of rhododendron that is actually used medicinally? Rhododendron anthopogon is a sweet and helpful essential oil that is far more useful than your average lawn bush.
According to Pompeii organics, this type of rhododendron essential oil has a light, clean scent. It’s different from most oils we feature, because instead of being very powerful in one area, rhododendron is more versatile, being a beneficial oil across the board.
Rhododendron is gentle. Its beautiful scent is a mood-booster, but it also has bacteria-fighting and decongesting properties, which make it helpful for cold and flu season. It’s a good choice if you want a floral smell without all the chemicals of commercial perfumes.
Pompeii recommends diffusing rhododendron or putting it in lotions and bath salts to make the most of its scent.
