Favorite Natural Cosmetics

Hello all! It’s Hannah again 🙂

Yesterday I talked about my newest favorite skincare product: African Black Soap. As promised, today I want to share a few of my favorite natural makeup products.

The Benefit of Natural

As a rule, I try to keep most of my makeup all natural and organic. I can tell the difference in my skin when I do and I love the feeling of knowing that I am nourishing my skin while helping to enhance, not destroy, my natural looks. I still use some Walmart makeup for special occasions, but overall I love the simplicity and natural beauty of all-natural cosmetics.

It’s true that natural makeup is more expensive than typical drugstore fare. However, the price difference is not that drastic, depending on the brands you find. I like to think of it as an investment, one that will pay me back in confidence and healthier skin!

CONS – Skin By Pom

This product is amazing to cover up dark circles and to – wait for it – treat blemishes while hiding them! It contains thyme essential oil, which as we’ve shown on this site, is great for fighting bacteria. The consistency is a little runny, so a little goes a long way. It blends very well and matches various skin tones, even if it looks a little dark in person.

Glowing Cheek Color – Juice Beauty

juice beauty

This is the priciest investment of them all, but it will last a super long time. You only need a little of this bright pink blush to add a rosy glow! Juice Beauty has an amazing line of all-natural cosmetics. This blush has ingredients like aloe vera, acai berry, and sweet orange oil, which we’ve featured on the blog before.

Truly Natural Mascara – Honeybee Gardens

This is hands down the best mascara! It defines without being too clumpy, and it never irritates with harsh fumes. My eyes used to itch and water every time I used regular mascara, and the waterproof stuff I got for my wedding would never fully wash out.

This product is not waterproof, but it’s reasonably resilient, defining well until you wash it out at the end of the day. It has a pleasant, earthy scent and lasts a long time. Its ingredients include olive, avocado, and rosemary oils.

So I hope this has been helpful! These are some of my personal favorite products as I try to treat my body as best I can while still having fun with makeup 🙂 Have you tried any of these products? Do you have recommendations? Let us know in the comments!

Review: African Black Soap

Hey everyone! Hannah here. Today I want to share about one of my new favorite skincare products: African Black Soap!

I heard about this soap from a friend who was using it to treat her acne. At first, I thought it was a little odd. Here was a bar of very black soap streaked with oatmeal that lathered into gray bubbles. Weird.

But my husband and I had run out of face wash, and I wanted to replace it with something natural. I mostly use all-natural makeup and haircare products, and I love being able to care for my body without worrying what I’m slathering on! So I went to our local health store and bought a bar of African black soap.

I bought this brand. It was only 5 bucks for a large bar! I washed my face as soon as I got home; I was so excited. And my face felt so nice! Nourished and healthy, thoroughly clean without feeling tight. Oh, and sooo soft. And the best part? Within a few days my face had significantly cleared up!

My husband and I both use the bar, and I use it in the shower too. It’s been nearly a month, but the bar is still a decent size; a little goes a long way! It has a pleasant scent, natural and fruity but not overpowering, appropriate for ladies or more manly folk. 🙂

African Black Soap, according to the Nubian Heritage website, has been used on the continent for hundreds of years. Its color is due to the use of palm ash in the soap. It also contains tamarind – an ancient medicine – and plantain, which is known for its healing properties. Coconut oil and aloe vera juice are also present in the soap, which are both amazing for healing skin and fighting bacteria.

I already love using our own Clear and Healthy Face Blend, and I’m excited to pair it with African Black Soap as an after-cleansing treatment.

Have you ever used African Black Soap? Would you try it? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and check back tomorrow as I review some of my favorite all-natural makeup products!

Holiday Blend Essential Oil

A few weeks ago we shared some essential oils useful for the holiday season. Scotch pine, nutmeg, and cinnamon are all useful to banish wintertime colds and encourage a festive mood!

Pompeii Organics has recently come out with their own Holiday Blend, and today we want to break down some of the reasons it’s so amazing!

This blend has some amazing oils, some of which we’ve talked about on this blog. They include Scotch Pine, Laurel Leaf, Cinnamon Leaf, Cypress, Frankincense, and Blood Orange. With this combination alone (and this list is only half of the total oils in the blend), the oil is great to decongest fight infection, sooth muscles and combat spasms and arthritis, relieve pain, and fight inflammation! And of course, it smells good too 🙂

Christmas Time…..

Good morning Monday! I just finished two Christmas Festivals in the last two weekends. I do love being out and meeting people and sharing health stories! As I shared before though, I do not like this “obligatory gift purchasing”- that we call Christmas Time. As I sit there in between swells of customers, I just have to laugh to my self…we all do it, we run around anxiously checking off our lists. It seems so futile to me. I do not think I was built to live in this era, but…here I am!

I am grateful to be able to help people and offer an alternative to their health needs. I get a lot of satisfaction when I see the “light bulb go on” in their minds realizing, they have some options and some choices in their health care. I hear a lot of all of the doctoring people are doing, with little result. I hear their frustration, and share my similar story of how it was that very thing that propelled me to look into alternatives (as scary as that seems, when you are not used to it) for me and my family. So, I guess, in that aspect, I am thankful to be living at this point in time.

Now, the REAL Christmas time I love…is spending time with my children! I got to do that with my daughter yesterday. We shopped, but more than that, we talked for a long time. That is the best! Catching each other up on life and sharing more of our selves with each other, I love it! It is good and precious times.

I look forward to the next week when all of my family will be together and we will be spending time catching up, being silly, sharing stories, and the inevitably be a little irritated with each other. But it is ALL GOOD and all part of being a family.

For those irritable times, and for the anxiety that comes with the season…consider Myrrh.Even the name is peaceful! It is calming for anxious minds and distractions it is soothing and tranquil. It is one of the oldest essential oils known. It is great for respiratory too, to calm coughs as well as excellent for the skin. However, it is contraindicated for pregnancy and breast feeding.

So, spend Christmas Time! Think about it. Still your mind with some Myrrh and consider what you should be doing with your time, this Christmas<320151205_155008
