Sinuses and Laurel Leaf

We shared this product back in September, and it’s still a customer favorite! We will be selling this Sinus and Allergy Inhaler on our new online store, which goes live at midnight tonight! Happy New Year Everyone!

Honest Aromas

Happy first day of Autumn everyone!

Today I want to highlight another product we make, as well as an active ingredient in it. Another one of our newest products is our Sinus and Allergy Inhaler.

20150921_095431

Like our Migraine Inhaler, this one is great for taking some aromatherapy with you in your busy life! It’s super effective for any kind of sinus blockage or allergy symptoms.

One of the active ingredients in the Sinus and Allergy Inhaler is Laurel Leaf (Laurus nobilis) essential oil. According to Pompeii Organics, laurel leaf fights pain and infection and calms spasms, decongests and reduces fever, making it perfect for use in allergy symptoms and colds.

Laurel leaf has a strong aroma sort of like eucalyptus, but with a spicier note to it. It complements the other oils in our inhaler perfectly!

The Little Things

Hello everyone! Hannah here. I hope your holiday week has been full of blessings!

Today I’m sitting in the cafe at IKEA, my favorite store ever.

IMG_7718.JPG

The past few days have been a little lonely for me, as my husband is away for a few days and most of my friends are occupied for the holidays.

My oldest friend, ever the solution-finder, suggested a whole list of things too do. One was taking myself out to the movies. I don’t know if I’m ready for that step in my relationship with myself quite yet, but I think taking myself out to IKEA is a step in the right direction. 😉

(Especially if the food looks like this…)

These past few months the Lord has been impressing on my heart to enjoy the little things, to take comfort in the most mundanely beautiful parts of life. It’s actually quite easy to do, once you start. A cup of coffee, a wooded hill, some moss in between rocks on the ground, the chatter of people in a store, are all tiny gifts that make life rich with joy if we stop to recognize them.

This mindset goes along with that of holistic health. When you consider all parts of something (your body, life, etc.), and realize that what harms one part will harm the whole, but what nourishes one part nourishes the whole, you become a lot more mindful and healthy as a person. Finding joy in the little things creates a subtle mindset of contentment even when the big things go awry. That’s something I definitely need! And that’s why I love IKEA. There are lots of little things. And they’re cheap :).

So find the little gifts in your life today, the little things God created for you to bring a smile to your face, for no logical reason at all. And don’t forget to stay posted this week as on Friday we open our online store!! We will be starting out with our customer favorites and growing as time goes by.

Thank you for visiting us today!

Frankincense and Myrrh

And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh (Matthew 2:11).

We’ve covered frankincense and myrrh on the blog before, but because they’re so relevant to the Christmas season, we thought we’d share them again!

The three Magis’ gifts to the infant Jesus: gold, frankincense, and myrrh, were not only valuable gifts, but also symbolic ones. Gold of course was a very kingly gift, frankincense was incense commonly offered to gods, and myrrh was an embalming herb. The three gifts represent Jesus’ role as a divine, yet mortal king while He was on earth.

Interestingly enough, these gifts are still significant today. Frankincense and myrhh are precious and powerful oils that are great to have in your essential oils collection. (Gold is pretty nice too, but that’s outside our area of expertise 😉 .)

Frankincense’s (Boswellia carteri) scent is earthy and spicy, and it has wonderful healing properties!

According to Pompeii Organics, Frankincense fights pain and inflammation. It helps regenerate skin cells, making it great for scars. With its mucous-ridding and bacteria-killing properties, it’s helpful for treating colds and clearing respiratory passages. It also strengthens the immune system.

myrrh-2__large

Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), according to the Aromatic Wisdom Institute, is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal. It helps relieve pain and regenerate the skin. It decongests and warms the body, making it perfect for respiratory issues.

Myrrh is usually  non-toxic and non-irritating, but I do caution pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to avoid it, as its chemical components can be toxic to infants.

Oranges for Christmas

A common Christmas tradition is to have oranges. They’ve been around for centuries as a holiday treat for eating and decor.

But did you know that oranges can also be used in aromatherapy? Sweet Orange Oil, (Citrus sinensis) to be exact!

When you peel an orange and the peel sprays a delightful scent into the air, that is actually the oil! When it’s processed and distilled it is great for a variety of health and well-being applications.

According to Pompeii Organics, sweet orange is helpful to boost circulation, relax the body, and calm muscle spasms. It also fights bacteria and strengthens the immune system, which is one reason we eat oranges when we are sick!

Mentally and emotionally, sweet orange is uplifting. You might notice your mood lifting just by eating one! Diffuse sweet orange into the air or dilute in a carrier oil or lotion and apply to sore or spastic muscles. This is one of the best smelling oils and makes a sweet and cheerful perfume. 🙂

Have a great weekend, folks! Try to find peace and joy in this busy season. Enjoy it!

Favorite Natural Cosmetics

Hello all! It’s Hannah again 🙂

Yesterday I talked about my newest favorite skincare product: African Black Soap. As promised, today I want to share a few of my favorite natural makeup products.

The Benefit of Natural

As a rule, I try to keep most of my makeup all natural and organic. I can tell the difference in my skin when I do and I love the feeling of knowing that I am nourishing my skin while helping to enhance, not destroy, my natural looks. I still use some Walmart makeup for special occasions, but overall I love the simplicity and natural beauty of all-natural cosmetics.

It’s true that natural makeup is more expensive than typical drugstore fare. However, the price difference is not that drastic, depending on the brands you find. I like to think of it as an investment, one that will pay me back in confidence and healthier skin!

CONS – Skin By Pom

cons

This product is amazing to cover up dark circles and to – wait for it – treat blemishes while hiding them! It contains thyme essential oil, which as we’ve shown on this site, is great for fighting bacteria. The consistency is a little runny, so a little goes a long way. It blends very well and matches various skin tones, even if it looks a little dark in person.

Glowing Cheek Color – Juice Beauty

juice beauty

This is the priciest investment of them all, but it will last a super long time. You only need a little of this bright pink blush to add a rosy glow! Juice Beauty has an amazing line of all-natural cosmetics. This blush has ingredients like aloe vera, acai berry, and sweet orange oil, which we’ve featured on the blog before.

Truly Natural Mascara – Honeybee Gardens

mascara

This is hands down the best mascara! It defines without being too clumpy, and it never irritates with harsh fumes. My eyes used to itch and water every time I used regular mascara, and the waterproof stuff I got for my wedding would never fully wash out.

This product is not waterproof, but it’s reasonably resilient, defining well until you wash it out at the end of the day. It has a pleasant, earthy scent and lasts a long time. Its ingredients include olive, avocado, and rosemary oils.

So I hope this has been helpful! These are some of my personal favorite products as I try to treat my body as best I can while still having fun with makeup 🙂 Have you tried any of these products? Do you have recommendations? Let us know in the comments!

Review: African Black Soap

Hey everyone! Hannah here. Today I want to share about one of my new favorite skincare products: African Black Soap!

I heard about this soap from a friend who was using it to treat her acne. At first, I thought it was a little odd. Here was a bar of very black soap streaked with oatmeal that lathered into gray bubbles. Weird.

But my husband and I had run out of face wash, and I wanted to replace it with something natural. I mostly use all-natural makeup and haircare products, and I love being able to care for my body without worrying what I’m slathering on! So I went to our local health store and bought a bar of African black soap.

764302106005_990x740_4

I bought this brand. It was only 5 bucks for a large bar! I washed my face as soon as I got home; I was so excited. And my face felt so nice! Nourished and healthy, thoroughly clean without feeling tight. Oh, and sooo soft. And the best part? Within a few days my face had significantly cleared up!

My husband and I both use the bar, and I use it in the shower too. It’s been nearly a month, but the bar is still a decent size; a little goes a long way! It has a pleasant scent, natural and fruity but not overpowering, appropriate for ladies or more manly folk. 🙂

African Black Soap, according to the Nubian Heritage website, has been used on the continent for hundreds of years. Its color is due to the use of palm ash in the soap. It also contains tamarind – an ancient medicine – and plantain, which is known for its healing properties. Coconut oil and aloe vera juice are also present in the soap, which are both amazing for healing skin and fighting bacteria.

I already love using our own Clear and Healthy Face Blend, and I’m excited to pair it with African Black Soap as an after-cleansing treatment.

Have you ever used African Black Soap? Would you try it? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and check back tomorrow as I review some of my favorite all-natural makeup products!

Holiday Blend Essential Oil

A few weeks ago we shared some essential oils useful for the holiday season. Scotch pine, nutmeg, and cinnamon are all useful to banish wintertime colds and encourage a festive mood!

Pompeii Organics has recently come out with their own Holiday Blend, and today we want to break down some of the reasons it’s so amazing!

HolidayBlend_blueglassbackgroundWEB__53127.1448585290.1280.1280

This blend has some amazing oils, some of which we’ve talked about on this blog. They include Scotch Pine, Laurel Leaf, Cinnamon Leaf, Cypress, Frankincense, and Blood Orange. With this combination alone (and this list is only half of the total oils in the blend), the oil is great to decongest fight infection, sooth muscles and combat spasms and arthritis, relieve pain, and fight inflammation! And of course, it smells good too 🙂
