Nilla

download (4)I am sitting here this morning sipping on my usual beverage for this time of day, my “green drink”. It consists of arugula, coconut milk, cilantro,  red palm oil or coconut oil, ginger, raw honey, cinnamon and….vanilla extract. Yummmay! I love it, but I imagine it would be an acquired taste for most people!!

So, as I was blending it, I realized that I have never highlighted Vanilla in a blog, nor have I ever used Vanilla Essential Oil! After reading some information on it, I am excited to experiment with this versatile oil! Let’s see what you think!

This information happens to come from organicfacts.net

The health benefits of Vanilla Essential Oil include;

Antioxidant qualities- It neutralizes free radicals and protects the body from infections and some caners such as prostate and colon.

Aphrodisiac- It stimulates the secretion of certain hormones to bring about a balance in sexual behavior….that’s all I’m gonna say about that;-)

Anti carcinogenic- Curbs growth of cancerous cells.

Febrifuge- Fever reducer! High in Eugenol and Vanillin Hydroxybenzaldehyde (believe it or not, a natural occurring chemical component!) which are great infection fighters.

Sedative- Which I think most people know that, but can also reduce inflammation because of that property.

Anti-depressant- Effective mood lifter. I don’t suggest eating a lot of Vanilla Ice Cream or Nilla Wafers to gain this benefit!! The weight gain and sugar could have an opposite effect!!

Relaxing- Calming effect on brain and nerves.

I am sure we have all used Vanilla Extract, but I think it will be fun to create with the Essential Oil! Our friends at Pompeii Organics have a few Vanillas to choose from which you can always order from me.

Do you use Vanilla Essential Oil? Tell us about it! We want to hear from you today!!

Cry Me a River

CB030161

Have you ever had a day where you just cry? Really hard, like it is never going to stop? I had a day like that yesterday.

I spent a lot of time in prayer. I took a scripture that I have been meditating on and put some Rose Absolute on my hands and and breathed it in deeply while I was memorizing this text about God rebuilding me. Emotionally, Rose eases grief, depression, soothes anger and deep despair. It is healing to the heart.

It is very cleansing to “get it all out”, isn’t it?  I actually had a couple meetings yesterday and I didn’t pretend. As my eyes were swollen from the flood coming out of them, I just stated where I was…in acceptance….I am not really good at hiding things- and I don’t think it very healthy to do that.

I had every intention of blogging yesterday, but our site was locked up:-( But I had looked up some benefits of crying to share with you and would like to do that today.

This came from Lifehack.org in their 9 Surprising Benefits of Crying article.

  1. Being vulnerable helps you connect with others.
  2. Confronting your feelings helps you to move forward.
  3. Expressing your emotions can help you be creative.
  4. Releasing tears flushes out toxins.
  5. Letting go of your baggage helps you end suffering.
  6. Crying helps you deal with stress.
  7. Weeping helps you come to terms with a loss.
  8. Having a good cry helps you to feel better.
  9. Being unafraid to cry makes you strong.

In my experience, I have to say I have found all of these things to be true. I think they were all true for me yesterday! I hope you have found this helpful and wonder how each of you feel about a good cry. I think I used to feel really weak and too emotional when I was having a day like that. Now, I just think it is what my spirit and body need to do. We live in an extremely complex world that has a level of stress unlike any other time in history. I think it is OK to handle it from time to time with rivers of tears- just as long as we don’t stay there, but move forward from it eventually.

Tell me about your experience with Rose Absolute! I would also like to hear your opinion on the things I shared about crying. We want to hear from you today!

Tea Tree Gargle

This weekend I went away to a cabin and forgot something really important! My Tea Tree Gargle! The air was really dry and I woke up with a really scratchy sore throat, but didn’t have my “go to” for the situation.

Upon using the gargle, I immediately started feeling better and it can stave off a cold amazingly fast. I put some in my bag right away to have for next time…so I am never with out it again.

Do you suffer with scratchy throats through this time of year? This product lasts a really long time as you do not need very much for it to do it’s work. Pick some up at Binda’s Lane in Franklin or @the Bank in Meadville…today!

Tell us about your experience using our Tea Tree Gargle! We want to hear from you today!20150930_202122

One of our products that we all love to use, is our Green Cleaner.

We have a bottle at every sink and bath in the house! It is perfect to keep on hand for quick clean up jobs. Used in conjunction with with a magical type eraser sponge, the cleaner works great for soap scum in the shower!

For allergies, we at Honest Aromas like to point out that taking a holistic approach to the cleaners in your home is the best first step to health. Do what you can to back off chemicals and switch to natural agents- your body may be able to fight off that cold better when it comes around because it hasn’t been working over time!

Aromatherapy

Here’s a bit of “Throwback Saturday” for you ;). This is from way back in June when we were a month into starting our business. Oh how we’ve grown! 🙂 This will hopefully answer questions you may have about aromatherapy. Of course, we are always open for additional questions!

Like Sweet Perfume

Here at Honest Aromas, we love playing around with essential oils to come up with new blends. The great thing about essential oils is that, although they primarily have therapeutic properties, they have nice smells too, and it can be a win-win to make something helpful that smells good. It’s like a double-duty perfume! 🙂

One of Hannah’s favorite oils to do this with is ylang ylang. Our favorite is this one, from Pompeii.

ylang ylang

Ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) is an extremely sweet, floral oil. You’ve probably heard of it before – it’s quite popular in commercial lotions and bubble baths. But the scent of those chemical products has nothing on pure ylang ylang essential oil! It’s pungent and perfumy, and sort of makes you need to lie down a minute :).

So it suffices to say that you only need a tiny bit of ylang ylang to pack a punch. It’s very sedating and calming, and it helps soothe pain and anxiety. It’s also great for strengthening the immune system.

Hannah likes to mix a tiny bit of ylang ylang with some bergamot and peppermint oils. The mix of floral, orange, and mint scents is lovely and soothing, and the energizing mint and citrus helps take the edge off the sleepy ylang ylang :).

Are you interested in trying some ylang ylang? Let us know. We’d love to share it with you!

Have a great weekend, folks!
